A common mistake in New Mexico is placing finish soil where monsoon runoff is likely to cross the landscape. Caliche hardpan can send water sideways, and arroyo flow can move loose material quickly. Keep Top Soil out of flow lines and use it only where the grade directs water away from the intended planting area. It is suited to new turf, garden spaces, and planted beds, rather than arroyo-side protection or patio base construction.
Screening gives the material a smooth texture for shaping the final growing surface. Conditions differ between the Rio Grande Valley, mountain areas, and the Llano Estacado, so the drainage plan should match the ground before soil is placed. The finished landscape layer should not be used to correct runoff problems underneath it. For a new lawn or planted bed, set the grade to shed water first, then apply Top Soil over the prepared area and work it into the final planting layout.

Common Uses
Starting or Repairing a Lawn
For new sod, thin areas that need overseeding, and low places in the yard, topsoil helps prepare the surface. Lay down 2-4 inches to give grass roots a layer where they can establish and fill in.
Garden Beds & Raised Planters
For garden plots and raised planters, topsoil gives vegetables, herbs, and flowers a workable place to grow. The screened material is simple to handle and helps roots develop.
Grading & Leveling
Use topsoil to even out rough ground, build up sunken spots, and shape drainage around foundations and structures. Grade the area so water moves away from the building; the soil settles lightly while still letting water soak through.
Tree & Shrub Planting
For trees and shrubs, blend topsoil into the native ground at planting time. This helps improve soil structure as plants take root during their early growth period.
Why Choose Top Soil
Quality Growing Medium
Topsoil forms an even base for lawns, gardens, and ornamental planting areas. Its soil structure gives developing roots support as plants become established.
Screened & Clean
Mechanical screening takes rocks, roots, and debris out of topsoil. This leaves an even material that is smooth to spread and easy to work.
Versatile Application
Use topsoil for home garden spaces, larger commercial jobs, lawns, planting areas, and grading work.
Bulk Topsoil
For large areas, bulk topsoil delivery costs a fraction of bagged alternatives. Material arrives at your property for placement across the area you are covering.
