Caliche hardpan can direct water sideways across a New Mexico work area during monsoon weather. That makes site grading important before concrete work, trench installation, or surface preparation begins. Washed Sand is a clean all-purpose aggregate for those tasks, particularly when native material from an excavation is not appropriate for the planned placement.
Washing removes clay and silt as well as organic matter, leaving sand suited to concrete batches, backfill, and leveling. Keep prepared sand work away from an arroyo flow line, and grade the surrounding base to shed water as site conditions require. When bedding pipe, place Washed Sand after the trench bottom has been prepared and before the pipe is installed. It flows into confined spaces around the line without bringing in loose material from the excavation.

Common Uses
Concrete & Mortar Mixing
For foundations, slabs, and walls, washed sand works as an aggregate in concrete and mortar. Its uniform particle sizing supports consistent mixes and the strength needed for structural applications.
Backfill & Trenching
Washed sand works around foundation excavations, utility runs, and post holes. In restricted areas, its clean makeup supports compaction while helping avoid drainage-system contamination.
Leveling & Grading
Use washed sand to correct uneven ground, set drainage slopes, and prepare construction areas. It settles into shallow depressions and can be compacted for a smooth, stable finish. In monsoon-prone areas, set grades to direct water away from the work area.
Pipe & Cable Bedding
Set underground pipe, conduit, and cable runs on washed sand for an even bearing layer. It settles around the installation without abrading coatings, reducing exposure to movement and concentrated pressure.
Why Choose Washed Sand
Clean & Contaminant-Free
The washing process separates out clay, silt, and organic debris that can interfere with drainage and concrete performance. This leaves material suited to uses requiring clean sand.
Even Particle Sizing
Washed sand has a uniform range of grain sizes for more predictable use in concrete, bedding, and fill applications. Consistent particles help produce repeatable placement and compaction.
Versatile All-Purpose Material
Washed sand serves jobs ranging from concrete work and pipe bedding to grading. Applying one material across these tasks can limit the specialty aggregates needed at the site.
Bulk Quantities
Bulk delivery offers an alternative to bagged sand for larger projects, using per-ton pricing. A single load can provide material for several stages of construction.
